On the invitation of the Press Council of India, the Chairman of the Media Council accompanied by two officials visited New Delhi, India from 15-18 November 2019 to participate in the National Press Day Celebrations of India. Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Myanmar participated in the celebrations.
On the eve of the National Press Day celebrations on the 16th November 2019, the Press Council of India opened a platform to discuss and deliberate on the topic “Reporting-Interpretation: A Journey. The round table meeting discussed ways and means to allow us to navigate the journey of press with the endeavor to find suitable answers to why and how the journey of media from reporting to interpretation has led to the diminishing media credibility and accountability.
The main event on 16th November 2019 was held at Hall No.6, Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi. The Chief Guest during the inauguration of the National Press Day Celebrations and Conferment of National Awards for Excellence in Journalism-2019 was Shri M. Venkaiah Naidu, the Hon’ble Vice President of India while the Guest of Honour was Shri Prakash Javadekar, Hon’ble Minister of Information & Broadcasting and Environment, Forest & Climate Change. The inaugural was presided by Hon’ble Shri Justice Chandramauli Kumar Prasad, Chairman, Press Council of India.
The Press Day Celebrations concluded with the conferment of National Awards for Excellence in Journalism by the Vice President. On the 17th November 2019, all the participants were taken on a one day sightseeing visit around New Delhi.
